Diversity, Equity & Inclusion | www.opensesame.com | (503) 808-1286 | 3 Unlike most organizational initiatives, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion programs and processes are flexible, open-ended enterprises that require evolution and nurturing. The key to achieving success is to take a strategic approach that touches all aspects of the organization, cultivating a new language for how the company sees itself and performs its mission. A holistic approach to DEI starts by establishing values across the organization including trust, transparency, and accountability. Understanding that these values must permeate every aspect of how an organization operates and communicates is essen- tial, beginning on the individual level. Every employee, leader and executive needs to recognize – and regard – the organi- zation's DEI principles and their roles and responsibilities to apply and promote them in everything they do. In addition to programmatic considerations, organizations need to have systems in place to facilitate DEI initiatives. Utilizing technology, governance practices (such as diversity councils to manage enterprise-wide efforts), and oversite tools to measure progress, make adjustments and ensure readiness to adapt to change and new challenges establish system supports that make a continuous, holistic DEI vision possible.
