Tip #3: Brand your initiative What you are and what you aren't In addition to determining what feelings you want your elearning program to be associated with, it is just as important to think about what you DON'T WANT to be. Getting feedback from your employees that includes feelings or adjectives you don't want to be identified with your brand can indicate your messaging isn't working and might need tweaking. Here is a very simple exercise you can use to determine the words you do and don't want associated with your training program. Simply write out a series of adjectives or phrases in response to each section: We are: ______________________________________________________________________________________ Which includes: ______________________________________________________________________________ But not: ______________________________________________________________________________________ Using OpenSesame as an example, the exercise might look like this: We are: ______________________________________________________________________________________ Which includes: ______________________________________________________________________________ But not: ______________________________________________________________________________________ Now use all of the work from the branding exercises to brainstorm ideas for a name for your training initiative that is in line with the feelings you want employees to associate with your program. Examples include "Pathfinders," "Talent Lab," "Voyagers," and "LEAD (Leadership Exploration & Development)." Don't forget about your learning management system (LMS). These platforms often allow organizations to incorporate their own branding, including uploading a logo and other images, customizing the colors, and even choosing the URL employees use to log in. This is a simple way to reinforce the branding and messaging you develop for your training program.
