Tip #7: Make it fun Incentives People love to win, so adding a little healthy competition into your elearning program can help increase usage. For those with some budget to spare, offering a prize can help drive participation in the elearning program. For example, small gift cards ($25-$50) can be awarded to the top training participant each month. Additionally, having departments compete against each other for bragging rights, or even a free lunch, can get employees excited for the program. Of course, not all employees need external motivation to participate in elearning. Many employees are driven by intrinsic motivation, which arises from within the individual. Setting up personal goals, such as a monthly or annual training goal, can keep these employees engaged. Another key motivator behind elearning usage is recognition. Receiving something tangible as a sign of achievement will get employees excited to take more and more courses. These can be as simple as providing certificates for specific milestones, or adding a special shout-out section in company newsletters or during department meetings. This can also be done on a company level with a "Department of the month" award, recognizing a department that has embraced training and has improved work processes as a result.
