Meeting DEI goals and
addressing the daily
issues and pain points all
organizations face are not
mutually exclusive. Indeed,
many of these challenges not
only benefit from an equity
lens to properly mitigate and
resolve, they require one.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, remote
working was gaining in mainstream popularity.
The benefits for both companies and workers –
increased performance and productivity, greater
flexibility and cost savings – do not come without
a downside. Working from home spotlights the
inequality of job roles, with more white-collar
positions being supported by management while
more manual, often service jobs require workers
to be on site.
Another example addresses the ability of an
organization to effectively relate to a diverse
customer base when its primary working force
is homogeneous. Relating to both employees
and customers from diverse groups requires
cultural competency and sensitivity. Improved
communications reinforce an organization's
strong identity and mission around DEI culture
and values and creates a strong distinction and
presence in its market.
