DEI technology solutions may use AI/ML and advanced analytics to provide granular insight into such areas as talent acquisition, advancement, well-being, and retention. 1 Additional solutions can assist leaders by providing objective feedback to reduce the probability of bias-creep. The impact of tech on both the public and private sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be overestimated. On both sides of the "virtual" counter, employees and citizens alike have had to innovate and modernize, using online, mobile, cloud portals and other technology services to do their work and meet their needs (recall how more DMV services were fulfilled online along with the booking of vaccination appointments.) In the words of Steve LaFleche, IBM's general manager for the US Public and Federal Market, "All companies are now tech companies in some form—and that goes for governments, too." Tech leaders within the public sector can bring about change by designing the kinds of solutions needed to bring more people into DEI practices. With their expertise and vision data collection can be reconfigured to meet the nuanced needs of DEI metrics. They can also create platforms that become part of an organization's technology suite that employees use daily, embedding DEI into longterm processes. Outdated and underperforming IT strusctures pres- ent an obstacle to meeting the evolving needs of the public (as highighted with failing unemployment sys- tems during the pandemic.)
